The ranch was originally known as Rancho del Monte from 1932 until 1968, when a young woman from Cleveland, Ohio named Betty Egan purchased the property and changed its name to Rancho Encantado. When Betty died in 1992, her family sold the ranch, and in 1998 it was named as one of the top 500 resorts in the world.

The Canyon Group purchased the property in 2005, entering into an agreement with Auberge to manage and operate the resort. During this time a full redevelopment was undertaken to create an entirely new and updated design. In this redesign, we have succeeded in preserving the historical roots of the ranch, while still providing the state-of-the-art amenities and luxury you would expect from an Auberge property.
